In Den Haag, an area with a shorter average distance to a supermarket can have a longer distance to a GP. Rather than giving each neighbourhood a single convenience score, start with the services you use and compare them separately.
The official municipality name in the source is ’s-Gravenhage; this guide uses Den Haag. The comparison includes eight selected wijken: Wijk 28 Centrum, Wijk 42 Ypenburg, Wijk 07 Scheveningen, Wijk 26 Bezuidenhout, Wijk 22 Zeeheldenkwartier, Wijk 38 Laakkwartier en Spoorwijk, Wijk 33 Bouwlust and Wijk 04 Benoordenhout. Their numbers and names follow CBS records. They are not a complete list of the city’s neighbourhoods or a ranking.
The closer service depends on what you need
Wijk 26 Bezuidenhout has an average road distance of 0.4 km to a large supermarket and 0.9 km to a GP. In Wijk 07 Scheveningen, the figures are 0.7 km and 0.5 km, respectively. The order reverses when you change the service. Wijk 22 Zeeheldenkwartier offers another combination: 0.4 km to a large supermarket and 0.6 km to a GP.
These are population averages, rounded to 0.1 km, rather than measurements from an advertised home. CBS uses the shortest route over paved roads usable by cars, including ferries and without accounting for every traffic restriction. A walking or cycling route may differ.
For a promising address, check the actual routes you would take and ask the GP practice whether it accepts new registrations. A nearby practice is useful only if you can use it; the distance indicator does not establish that.
Ypenburg and Centrum describe different household mixes
Households with children account for 53% in Wijk 42 Ypenburg, compared with 14% in Wijk 28 Centrum. One-person households account for 25% and 63%, respectively.
The child population measure answers a different question. Residents aged 0–14 account for 19% in Ypenburg and 10% in Centrum. The 53% household figure does not mean that 53% of Ypenburg’s residents are children. It counts private households with children, and those children are not necessarily under 15.
These distinctions matter when considering schools or childcare. The household figures describe the area but do not count available places or confirm an address’s admission arrangements. Check those directly before relying on a home for a particular school or childcare plan.
Rental stock does not tell you what is on the market
Rental dwellings account for 79% of the housing stock in Wijk 28 Centrum, 43% in Wijk 42 Ypenburg and 32% in Wijk 04 Benoordenhout. This describes the balance of rented and owner-occupied housing at the reference date. It does not say how many homes you can apply for today.
The rental category includes housing corporations and other landlords. Check the advertised rent, eligibility, contract term and included charges for each listing. The rental-contract guide and costs beyond rent help turn that listing into a more complete housing decision.
Use the comparison to choose addresses to investigate
Pick two or three areas whose daily routes could work for you, then assess real homes within them. Check the commute at the time you would travel, the building’s access and ventilation, and how much the recurring costs leave in your budget. A wijk average cannot settle those questions.
Figures come from CBS / PDOK Wijk- en Buurtkaart 2024. Population and household figures refer to 1 January 2024; the comparison states each indicator’s reference period. Wijk resident counts are rounded to multiples of five and shares to whole percentages. See the CBS dataset and map definitions.
