Use bicycle records to ask about parking
If your Utrecht routine includes a train journey, check where you would leave your bicycle at home and at the station. The comparison above includes bicycle and moped theft; it does not isolate bicycles or count how many were parked. A rate per 1,000 registered residents also leaves visiting commuters out of its denominator. Use the figures to prompt questions about storage and access, rather than estimate the chance of losing your own bicycle. Home theft/burglary is a separate category for residential premises; it still cannot assess a particular home’s doors, locks or shared entrance.
Coverage, years and rates
The comparison includes every Utrecht wijk in Politie table 47018NED, using its 2025 boundaries. A wijk is a statistical district, not a separate entry for every smaller buurt or street. The source was updated on 15 April 2026. Counts include attempts and may be revised. The trend shows raw annual counts for 2023–2025, rather than rates calculated with a single year’s population.
Only the 2025 count is divided by the population at 1 January 2025 and multiplied by 1,000. This is Hey Haven’s calculation, using CBS / PDOK Wijk- en Buurtkaart 2025; wijk populations are randomly rounded to multiples of five. Counts remain visible when the rate is unavailable because population is missing or below 50; that population threshold is our display rule. Missing offence data is not zero.
